Formal vs. informal greetings in business English

Business English — szinte egy külön világ a nyelvben. Kezdetnek lássuk, milyen “köszöntések” használhatók üzleti helyzetben, formális és baráti viszonyok között.

1. Making Requests

  • Informal: Can you send me the report?

  • Formal: Could you kindly forward the report to me?

2. Scheduling Meetings

  • Informal: Let’s meet next Tuesday.

  • Formal: I would like to propose a meeting on the coming Tuesday.

3. Asking for Clarification

  • Informal: I didn’t get what you meant.

  • Formal: Could you please clarify what you meant?

4. Offering Assistance

  • Informal: Need a hand with that?

  • Formal: May I offer my assistance with that matter?

5. Giving Opinions

  • Informal: I think we should go with the second option.

  • Formal: In my opinion, the second option would be the most advantageous.

6. Making Suggestions

  • Informal: How about we postpone the launch?

  • Formal: I would suggest considering the postponement of the launch.

7. Agreeing with a Proposal

  • Informal: Sounds good to me.

  • Formal: I concur with your proposal.

8. Declining Offers

  • Informal: No thanks, I’m good.

  • Formal: I appreciate the offer, but I must decline.

9. Expressing Appreciation

  • Informal: Thanks a lot for your help!

  • Formal: I greatly appreciate your assistance.

10. Apologizing

  • Informal: Sorry for the late reply.

  • Formal: I apologize for the delayed response.

  4. Clarify – Tisztázni
  5. Assistance – Segítség
  6. Opinion – Vélemény
  7. Advantageous – Előnyös
  8. Suggest – Javasolni
  9. Proposal – Javaslat
  10. Concur – Egyetért
  11. Decline – Elutasítani
  12. Appreciate – Méltányolni / Értékelni
  13. Assistance – Segítség (Note: Repeated for emphasis on its importance)
  14. Apologize – Bocsánatot kérni
  15. Delayed Response – Késedelmes válasz
